Highland Rebels: As you know, due to the weather and road conditions tomorrow, Tuesday, February 16, 2021 will be a virtual learning day. Even so, we also want to stress that all of our teachers and administrators agree that these virtual days must not be just about learning, but also must be about flexibility. We know that some families are without power and some are without internet service. We also know that some families want to spend some of this time playing in the snow. We fully understand all of this and we want our students to be able to have fun with the snow while continuing to learn with their teachers and classmates. All days missed due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances must be converted to virtual learning days, or they have to be made up at a later date. If we don’t convert these inclement weather days to virtual days we will have to use our spring break days for make-up days and add any additional days on to the end of the year. These are not just local Highland School District requirements, but are the same guidelines that all public school districts in Arkansas must follow. Mr. Sharp Superintendent Highland School District

As part of a coordinated response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in partnership with the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas has developed this Parent/Guardian Survey for soliciting family input on what is working now and what may be considered for the future. Parent Survey purpose The survey seeks to involve families in an organized, ongoing and timely way in planning, review, and improvement. The survey—which will remain open for two (2) weeks—will provide feedback regarding: * family concerns * how families are making decisions * family awareness of options and resources available * family considerations for the future The intention of this survey is not to identify individual district responses, but rather to establish an understanding of the state as a whole. The information will be aggregated by region only; therefore, families will be asked to identify the region of the state in which they live in order to understand the distribution of the survey without specifically identifying any district by name. The survey will close on Friday, November 20. OEP will be sharing results at the December State Board meeting. Survey Link https://uark.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6X7aRF3ErNNXFel
